FAQS

FAQS

How do I book/change an appointment?

To book an appointment with Ivory & co please call our showroom on 01684 592030 and we will be delighted to arrange a time and date for your personal consultation.

When is the Ivory & co showroom open?

Our showroom is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm every week as well as certain Saturdays in every month.

How long will my appointment be?

We would always recommend our brides try to come during the week where we can give a longer appointment time and the bride can enjoy a peaceful experience with the showroom to themselves. Due to high demand on a Saturday we can only offer a 90 minute appointment and several brides will be in at the same time so it is a good idea if you can arrange for a morning or afternoon off work for your visit.

How long in advance should I book my first bridal appointment?

Ideally we would recommend you come in for a first look at our collections between 12 and 18 months before your wedding date. Please don’t be put off if you have a shorter time frame to work with as we can sometimes help with rush cut orders or brides are also able to choose from our stock of sample dresses.

How many guests can I bring to my appointment?

The bride plus two or three guests is usually an ideal number to help support the bride in making the choice of wedding dress that best reflects her personality. Although we do not have a strict number policy we have found larger groups can be overwhelming for a bride with many varied opinions on what she should choose instead of being able to focus on her vision for her big day.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

It can be helpful if you bring along a strapless bra, but this is not absolutely essential as all of our gowns have internal supporting corsetry. Although we have a selection of shoes in various sizes, if you have a pair of shoes in the kind of heel size you would like to wear on your wedding day please bring these along with you.

What happens during a first bridal consultation?

First of all we take some time to share your vision of the look you would like to achieve on your wedding day. Our experienced staff will help you to make this big decision. We can help advise based on body shape, venue, theme and practicalities of the day. You will then be able to select dresses to try on from our fabulous collections. We believe every bride is unique and will give you a personal service to produce the gown of your dreams.

Can I make changes to any dress designs that I like from the Ivory & co collections?

You can choose to order one of our stunning gowns just as it is or have a bespoke experience where you can choose elements from various dresses to create your perfect look. Whether you would like to remove or add detailing like sleeves or change neck or waistlines, or if you would like to change the materials, colour or lace used to create your dress this is not a problem. Our experienced team understands that this will be the most important garment you ever buy and wear so we want to ensure you achieve the unique look that you are dreaming of.

Can I get a completely bespoke design made?

It is possible to make an appointment with our head designer Sarah Bussey for a completely bespoke consultation. Sarah is a very hands on designer who takes pride in creating unique, innovative and stylish bridal gowns and loves the challenge of creating a design from scratch. She will spend time to get a deep understanding of your vision and personality before producing sketches and recommending materials and detailing that will combine to achieve your personal style. If you would like to find out more about Sarah and the ethos and inspirations behind her designs please go to our Designer focus page.

Can you advise me on accessories to match my gown?

As well as housing our beautifully handcrafted dresses the Ivory & co showroom also boasts the largest collection of bridal accessories in Europe including, boleros, veils, belts and sashes, designer headpieces and bridal jewellery. As designers of both the dresses and accessories we are in the unique position of being able to recommend tiaras, combs and jewellery that have been specifically designed to match the dresses in our various collections.

I have chosen an Ivory & co bridal gown, what happens next?

There will usually be two more appointments to attend after choosing your dress.

Firstly, you will need to see us to take your measurements for the dress and we advise leaving this no later than 9 months before the wedding to leave enough time for making the gown (especially if this involves us creating a bespoke design). Instead of making a standard UK size we make a new pattern block for each bride based on their body measurements and we will then start carefully handcrafting your gown. Brides need to bring their actual wedding shoes to this measurement appointment to allow us to make the calculations needed to make the dress the right length.

Following up from this is the Pick-up appointment where you get to try on your made to measure gown for the first time and take it away in one of our luxury garment bags. If your wedding is overseas we can advise on gown travel boxes and at this time will also advise on ways for your dress to look its best on the big day.

Do I have to lose weight before I come for my measurement appointment?

Some brides will put off this appointment whilst trying to lose weight, we would advise to come sooner rather than later as this will leave more time for alterations and mean less stress closer to the wedding. Also in this case an alteration would be needed anyway and it makes little difference if it is a minor alteration or if it needs more taking in due to losing more weight. The most important thing is to leave the optimum time for the dress to be made and any alteration after.

Do I have to pay for the full cost of my dress up front when I place my order?

At Ivory & co we only ask for a small deposit of £300 when you place your order with the rest of the cost payable on collection of the dress before your wedding.

Is the cost of alterations included in the price of my dress?

The reason that Ivory & co cannot be responsible for covering the cost of any alterations is due to a high proportion of brides being on diets for their wedding and their body shape changing to be smaller after their measurement appointment (or in some instances gaining weight) during the months that it takes to make the dress. We are happy to make the dress to the measurements of the bride when we see them but understandably cannot fund any alteration needed as often a brides body shape can change considerably.

Some brides fit perfectly in their dress, some need just the smallest of alterations and some who have lost a lot of weight will need more extensive alterations (but in all cases it is easier to make a dress perfect for a bride when made proportionally for their body shape than in a standard size).

Where can I try on an Ivory & co dress?

Our fabulous 2000 square foot showroom is located in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside with ample free parking and is easily accessible from the M5 and M50 motorways. Please see our Contact page for the address, map and directions.

If you are too far away to visit our showroom you can view a selection of our dresses at one of the National Wedding shows we attend during the year in London or Birmingham.

Alternatively, we supply dresses to bridal stores all over the UK and overseas so you can visit our stockist page for details of your nearest Ivory & co specialist. If your nearest stockist does not have the dress you particularly wish to try it is possible for us to arrange to loan the sample dress to that store.
